Found a dead fish on the beach
Flipped it over
It was alive with maggots,
Had a yellow ball in my hand
Tossed it across the park
My dog brought it back to me,
Watched a bunch of ants fight a caterpillar
Tipped some coke on them
Only some of the ants could swim,
Laid on the warm sandy creek-bank
Pushed my fingers against my eyes
Wondered again where the colours come from,
Stood under the rail bridge and waited
Yelled at the top of my voice
The 4 pm to Southside is always on time,
The sun is huge and orange in the west
Purple’s chasing it from the east
Some kids on the other side can start their day.
