Brash young mountains,
Flaunt their snowy caps.
Calm, time and weather worn hills,
Shepherd the crystal rivers
Towards an ancient sea.
Fertile land supports,
Ponga, Kauri and Black Beech.
Kakapo, Takahe and Kiwi,
Patrol temperate rainforests.
Above mighty coastal cliffs,
Albatross soar,Β while below,
Yellow Eyed Penguin
defy the surf; and nest.
This land administers.
She sustains the spirit
Of all who witness these gifts,
Under a sky streaked,
With a long white cloud.
Lovely..π

The poem and photo complement each other nicely. In the photo, the long green path complements the long white cloud nicely. Tho I only recognized a few of the names of NZ plants and animals in the poem, my ignorance did not detract from its vividness.

Thank you! I really appreciate you taking time to read and comment. To be honest, I debated with myself about the necessity to include the names of native NZ trees and creatures – but I finally decided that to honour those creatures/plants, they needed to be named. I am very happy that you visited. Thanks again.

The names that were new to me still have a nice rhythm and convey a sense of being in a specific beloved place, so I like the choice U made.
