An Almost True Story

I met a man today

He had no right ear.

I had to ask –

Can you still hear?

 

He smiled and said;

I took the ear myself

And gave it to my lover –

He left me that day.

 

I thought I was to die

From loss of blood

And loss of love.

Then my lord spoke –

 

Maybe you loved

Just a little too hard –

Maybe your passion was hiding

Your deepest fear?

 

Love both you and me –

Together we will be happy…

I’ve been happy since,

He said with a wave.

 

From the window

Of his tired old car

He smiled –

He’s all I need to hear.

Bleeding

alone in this dark

while my wrists, they gently weep.

waiting for the light

Prayers

on incense clouds

our prayers depart

leaving only plastic

A Mine

A thousand animals died on this site

More than a mere thousand years ago

Time and pressure formed a soft fuel

A commodity to use

Turn it into power

Never mind the smoke

Send it skyward

Use it up

Exploit

Warning – I have use a piece of language in this poem that may offend some.  I have not done it gratuitously and for those of you who have ever been in ‘the dark place’ you will understand that no other work can carry the necessary emotion.

So please if the use of such a word will offend you, I ask you to read no further.

Here goes…

 

Gimme some space –

Some elbow room.

Time to fuck this up

In my own special way.

 

I don’t need your advice –

Your thinly veiled suggestions.

Criticism is my razor

When I’m feeling this way.

Hope

 

As promising as a waving hand.

As possible as a forgiving look.

As suggestive of a half smile.

As rewarding as a backward glance.

These subtle gestures,

Sometimes misread –

Give hope then steal the soul.
