So many times I try to divide,
My mind from my heart
In matters pertaining to war.
We need no bullets,
Or hatchets buried deep
To slice each other’s soul –
A loosely spoken word,
As poison as a dart
That’s touched a crimson frog.
A look as cold as space.
A heart as unyielding as gravity.
These weapons often star.
It rends my aching spirit
Creates in me a destructive mind,
‘Cos deep inside I know.
Without you I’m only half,
And you can surely see –
You’ll never have to bleed for me.
…………………………………………..
- If your enemy is secure at all points, be prepared for him.
- If he is in superior strength, evade him.
- If your opponent is temperamental, seek to irritate him.
- Pretend to be weak, that he may grow arrogant.
- If he is taking his ease, give him no rest.
- If his forces are united, separate them.
- If sovereign and subject are in accord, put division between them.
- Attack him where he is unprepared, appear where you are not expected .”
Sun Tzu, The Art of War
Starck and beautiful. As always, brilliant blend of words & pictures. I know I’m repeating myself, but the way you blend visuals and words is often breathtaking. Thank you for a great ongoing blog.

Lovely poem. I, too, have been at war with people, and it took me a few weeks to come at peace again. What is war without peace, and peace without war?

It’s not a pleasant thing xaranahara, this war business and I know that it can be avoided if we just take the time to listen and share 🙂 thanks for taking the time to read and comment and I’m glad your war is over 🙂

Words are sometimes deadlier than weapons and when they come from a loved one, they hurt more.
I believe, there’s always a space for reconciliation, for peace. 🙂
Great piece of poem as always, Andy.
The “Art of War” sound effective and lethal.

Thanks Maniparna 🙂 there is a saying I heard when I was a kid – “sticks and stones will break my bones, but names will never hurt me” – but as you say, sometimes it is easier to take the physical pain than the mental pain caused by a lovers lethal words.
