I met a man upon the beach One steamy summer morn'. He was quiet and calm, And as we stood and watched - Another day was born. As the first rays touch our chests I turned to look at him once more. His hair was long, His feet were bare, His robes were wet and worn. He turned to me a gaze that pierced, Then filled me with content. His eyes were deep His face was calm His soul was on display. He invited me to share repast We sat and watched the rising sun - And ate his fish And ate his bread And drank no finer brew. Conversation flowed with ease As if brought upon the gentle breeze We spoke of things That summer dawn Which calmed my jagged mind. I walk that beach now ev'ry day And feel the same sweet peace - As nature flows And the ocean sighs And seabirds eulogise.
Beautiful.

A moment can be a lasting memory 😊 It sounded like a great time by the beach, not only sunrise and sunsets but also the small thing like small conversations.
Hope all isn’t too hot for you up there, Andy. It is cool here but I’m looking forward to it heating up again next week 😊

Thanks Akhila – it was a particularly relaxing and calm morning – the sea was quiet and only a gentle breeze pushed through the trees that line the coast. Hope your week is pleasant 😊

This is one of your best poems, Andy! The man could be a metaphor of inner peace of mind or the Guardian Angel …or maybe he was just a stranger. ….. the words here really are breezy…just beautiful… 🙂
I especially loved the line, “His soul was on display”.

Oh!! Thank you Maniparna!! I feel a bit strange saying that I love this poem (sounds boastful), but the day was perfect for writing and the feeling came through into the poem I think. Yes, inner peace and respect for our world were in the forefront of my thoughts as I watch the arrival of a new day. Your comment has made me very happy 🙂

…and your comment made me happier because nothing makes a reader happier than deciphering the poet’s thoughts depicted in his poems 🙂
And, it’s not boasting, Andy, it’s truth…this is really, really a beautiful poem…
