When I was still quite small
And the world just so big,
I’d sit alone and think
About how long each day
Took passing to the night.
As I grew old and bold,
I knew time was a race –
And now the days are short
And nights are for deep thought.
So in this race with time
That I will call a life,
If you should see me fall
And take my time to rise,
No need for you to mind –
I’m keeping time in front.
Let him think he’s winning…
It gives more time to see –
The beauty in short days,
The wonder in long nights,
The innocence in eyes
Much younger than my own.
Beautiful reflections! Sometimes time feels like a mere illusion. We humans made it up and got enslaved by it. Thank you for these thoughts to ponder. 🙂

A rather ponderous poem, Andy. My favourite line was, “The wonder in long nights”. As a night person, late nights speak to me and it’s when I’m most awake. The older we get, the more we know…and we come to realise that when we look at those around us. There is something attractive about innocence: what’s to come, what’s to be, a big sense of hope.
Hope you had a good weekend. It was a very warm one here in Melbourne and I enjoyed it thoroughly by going out for a hike 🙂

Thanks Mabel – I hope you enjoyed your hike – i’ve just returned from walking the dog and am looking forward to a cold shower – its hot and steamy here. Time is an amazing thing the way it seems to speed up when we are having fun and then drag when we are not enjoying ourselves. Do you think the innocence is slowly rubbed away from our being by our constant exposure to the ‘not so pleasant’, which is thrust at us on every form of media? Enjoy your evening’s pondering 🙂

I think the media can be manipulative. Sometimes what we see in the news just happens to a few people…but then again, there are these unpredictable things out there. So, we have to be careful and so our innocence strips away slowly but surely for many of us.
I had a great hike along Jan Juc and Torquay beaches. Blue sky, sunshine weather. 30’C. I covered up with a jacket and didn’t get sunburn 😀 Hope you enjoyed your shower and here’s to a cooler week for you 😀

Yeah…Time, the old gipsy man, he always thinks he is the winner… let him think in that way. we can tame Time in our own ways, in small things that are very personal… 🙂 Wonderful sketch by your friend and great words to complement it. Lovely poem, Andy… 🙂

That’s a lovely expression, Andy. Your words are in congruence with the sketch. It’s true, that right from the beginning we are made to run after time and in the process we lose out on the soaking and savoring the moment. So, I like it when you say ‘Let him think he’s winning…It gives more time to see – the beauty, the wonder…

Beautifully written. It is the longer nights of thought that provide the true illumination of the days. Only through innocence is wisdom acquired.
