“From Lalit”
(Lalit is the Mauritian Creole word for ‘struggle’)
I stood on a beach and the warm sea washed my feet
And I came from Lalit, to a life that’s complete.
The clouds simply watched us and scudded on by
Blue skies and soft breeze had no need to try
For the day was sublime and the memory lingers
This life must be blessed my good fortune continues.
I stood on a beach and the warm sea washed my feet
And I came from Lalit, to a life that’s complete.
It was some years ago on a similar beach,
On a day full of light under a heaven in reach.
She appeared before me in the curl of a wave
And we surfed together towards our future – so brave.
I stood on a beach and the warm sea washed my feet
And I came from Lalit, to a life that’s complete.
Some times in the past I’ve had reason to pause
And wonder at life and question my course.
Then the bright smiling face of my child in the waves
Reminds me of treasures, and again I am saved.
