You know ‘that song’, it’s in your head when you wake up? You start singing it in the shower, and you wonder where it came from. You haven’t heard it in years and suddenly you are smiling – this poem is about ‘that song’ 🙂

It came in true sunrise colour,
flavouring the start of my day
like a rich tempura batter.
Transporting me to a time far away.
>
This was always our song, back
when air-conditioned meant
you let the window down a crack, and
our love was velvet wrapped cement.
>
The words weren’t deep it’s true
Just, boom sha la la la la la la
But the tune just drove away the blue
And made me skip in time la la la la.
>
So on my way to work this day
A smile as wide as sunrise, is
Upon my face and will not go away.
‘Cos that’s what music does –
It makes life fizz.
